Through a programme of public events and a press and marketing campaign, the Science on a Plate initiative brought together chefs, food experts and scientists from the Scotland’s leading environmental, agricultural and nutritional research institutes to demonstrate the science behind the food we eat.
CoZEE members from Moredun Research Institute and the Food Standards Agency Scotland collaborated to develop an travelling exhibition as part of the Science on a Plate project to raise awareness about food safety and some of the research that is currently going on to help control the pathogens involved.
The programme reached a very large audience of people of all ages and from a very wide social background. The primary audience included 43,828 visitors who engaged directly with the exhibition and over 2,500 who attended one or more of the public events.
The exhibition has been shown at Gateway Centre in Edinburgh during the Science Festival; Satrosphere Science Centre in Aberdeen; the British Association of Science Festival; Orkney International Science Festival; Fish Fest MacDuff Aquarium; Scottish Seabird Centre and Dundee Science Festival.
